Music For Children (Victory March)
Instrumentation – 2 steel-string guitars
Duration – c.3’16”
Written in Seattle/Brighton 2005
First performed by Lee Westwood, time and place unknown
On a trip to visit my Dad in the States, I was struck by the idea of how silly it was to write simplified music for children, when, at a point before they had any preconceptions or opinions whatsoever, it was just as plausable to subject them to something more complex. ‘Music For Children’ was the result of this epiphany. Originally composed for one guitar, the second guitar part was a later addition, made shortly before the recording of the album ‘To Sleep (Farewell Songs)’.
