Dedicated to Zoë A Padley. This short piece was composed for a workshop with the Workers Union Ensemble (conductor – Ben Oliver) at the University Of Sussex on 19th Feb 2015. The work is entirely constructed from a short sequence of intervals (b2, 2, 3, b3) that form a harmonic field. When played horizontally, they form rolling, melodic lines. When stacked vertically, however, they form small explosives that disrupt the continuity of the melodic material.
