My good friend, the guitarist and luther Paul Aguilera (who taught me so much about music, instruments and sound in general, I cannot overstress his importance in my education) one evening showed me a documentary on Paco De Lucia, in which there was footage of a live performance in America of his Rondeña ‘Mi Niño Curro’. The overwhelming beauty of this piece inspired me to write my own response. The title of this work, unrelated to the music, came from recently having read Joyce’s ‘Ulysses’, and as such is a companion piece to ‘Daedalus’.
